Tolerancing Learning Plan

Tolerancing Learning Plan

Subset of the Optical System Design created specifically for a deep dive into Zemax OpticStudio tolerancing capabilities.

This subset of the Optical System Learning Plan learning plan consists of 4 courses [+2 additional courses for the getting started course and the final exam], covering 2 days worth of material. The purchase of this learning plan gives you access to the online training platform for 20 calendar days.
The trainee is assumed to have a background with Zemax OpticStudio in system analyses and optimization, and if not, we recommend the Optical System Learning Plan

Training objectives:

  • Explain sources of error for a system
  • Build error sources and values into the system model
  • Identify system sensitivities
  • Determine required manufacturing & assembly precision to achieve target performance/yield
  • Describe the uses, benefits, and drawbacks of the available methods for improving predicted performance

7. Tolerancing I
7. Tolerancing I
This course offers a first introduction on tolerancing in OpticStudio. After a theory overview, it describes the purpose of the different tolerancing algorithms available. By using a single Monte Carlo file, it describes the different tolerancing operands and their effect on the overall system performance.

8. Tolerancing II
8. Tolerancing II
This course discusses the use of compensators in a tolerance analysis, and explains in more details the sensitivity, inverse sensitivity and Monte Carlo algorithms. The course also includes an example of how to tolerance a singlet lens, and discusses in details the outcome of the Analysis of tolerances.

9. Tolerancing III
9. Tolerancing III
This course describes how to tolerance for irregularity in OpticStudio. It then shows how to model a double pass system, and what are the necessary steps to ensure tolerancing of such type of systems is correctly performed.

10. Tolerancing IV
10. Tolerancing IV
This course shows how to simulate complex alignment procedures via the use of Tolerancing Scripts. It also explains how to customize the performance criterion used for the tolerancing analysis, how to evaluate the benefit of compensators and what to do if the design is too sensitive to tolerancing perturbations.
